A four-year iteration on one mechanism — reverse-engineered from a cheap analogue joystick, shown at Makerfaire Taipei 2014, hacked into a cat teaser, then rebuilt as a third-generation version in 2016. 一個機構的四年迭代:從拆解類比搖桿開始,做出一顆能追蹤的機械眼球;隔兩週帶去 Makerfaire 2014 展出;拿紅外線改成逗貓器;2016 年重做第三代。

§ Ch.01 — Prototype · 拆搖桿做雛形 (2014-08)

起點是一顆在電子街買的類比搖桿。原本是想替 Arduino RC 車做遙控器,拆開之後發現裡面那顆萬向機構非常漂亮 —— 兩組電位計 + 回彈彈簧 + 萬向軸,反向驅動就變成能追蹤方向的機械眼球。

用兩顆 micro-servo 當驅動,Arduino 讀輸入控制兩軸角度,3D 列印一顆空心眼球外殼。這是雛形,還沒想太多用途。

§ Ch.02 — Makerfaire 2014 · 雛形上場

雛形做完不久,Openlab.Taipei 聚會時帶去給鄭公子看,被提議一起去 Makerfaire Taipei。展位上現場用感測器當輸入,讓眼球追著最靠近的人看 —— 小孩站在展位前三秒沒動,眼球就會鎖定他們,通常會有人笑出聲。

這不是完成版,是帶著雛形出門測試。

§ Ch.03 — Proper v1 + Cat Teaser · 初初代與逗貓裝置

展覽回來後,把雛形打掉重做 —— 重新布線、重新設計外殼、重新調整 servo 響應,這才算是「初初代」正式版本。做完再做一個分支:輸入改成紅外線動作感測、加一根羽毛桿,就是逗貓裝置。做完發現 FroliCat 早就有類似商品,但我的版本至少便宜一半(也笨一半)。

§ Ch.04 — Third Generation · PLEO 頭上的眼睛 (2016-04)

2016 年跟 Openlab.Taipei 的社群夥伴合作,重新設計眼球裝置,直接裝到 PLEO 恐龍的頭上。同一個 PLEO 背後還掛著火箭背包(見 W—001),整隻一起帶去 Makerfaire Taipei 2016 —— 這是我第二次參加 Makerfaire(第一次是兩年前拿雛形去)。

為了裝在 PLEO 頭上,第三代整個重新設計:固定點、走線、伺服馬達位置、以及外型都配合恐龍頭的曲面重做。對當年的我這是一次極好的練習 —— 第一次為「別人的東西」設計附加件。

最後展位成品:火箭在背後閃、眼睛在頭上轉、恐龍走動。Blue Ribbon 那年頒給火箭背包(見 W—001 的 outcome),眼睛沒得獎,但少了它那個 booth 完全不一樣。
